HOW TO SET UP MY MOFI3500-3GN ROUTER:
The entire process is simple and should take approx 2 mins to get your router set up! Very Important: If you are using the Bell MC998 or most of the USA, stick, you need to update to the latest firmware on the MOFI web site. For the USA sticks, you must update to the BETA version T2 The update and instuction are located in the following link: http://mofinetwork.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=52&Itemid=67 Before we run the wizard to do the settings, you will need to know some information about your stick and provider. Is your stick a SIM based or it is a NON-SIM based (EVDO, CDMA) If you have a SIM card, it is a SIM based stick, if not, it is an EVDO stick. Note: Verizon sticks are all EVDO as some new version may have a SIM card in them. If your stick is a SIM based, you will need to know the APN for your provider. A list of the APN is listed below: Rogers: internet.com Bell: inet.bell.ca Telus: isp.telus.com Fido: internet.fido.ca Windmobile:broadband.windmobile.ca AT&T: isp.cingular T-Mobile: epc.tmobile.com If your stick is an EVDO stick, all you would need to put in is the dial number which is #777 Now let's get started: 1) Connect the 2 wireless antennas to the back of the router and connect the power to the unit. 2) Either put the network cable to your pc and into one of the 4 ports or connect to the unit wireless (no password is required) If you are using a Cable or DSL high speed modem, connect that to the WAN port and then power off and on the cable/dsl modem. If you are using the 3G stick, you do not have to have anything connected to the WAN port. 3) Once you get connected, open your internet browser such as Firefox or Internet Explorer. It should ask you for a username or password. If it does not, type is: http://192.168.0.1 in the address bar. If you still cannot get to this, then read below for help. 4) The default username is "admin" The default password is "admin" Please enter these to get into the router GUI interface. 5) Click on the wizard to get started 6) This wizard process will take you through the steps and should get your online and working within minutes (approx 2 mins) Press the Next button to continue 7) Select your time zone, if you do not know, it is really not that important. (-5:00 is set as default for Toronto, New York and Miami areas) Press next to continue 8) This page will ask you whether you want to connect to the internet with a 3G stick or with a home based cable/dsl connection. Select the appropriate option and press next 9) If you selected the 3G option (the one on the top), you will now have to tell which type of stick you have. Select from the Network Type either UMTS (3.5G) or CDMA 2000 (EVDO) 10) If you selected CDMA, make there is nothing in there for username and password and the dial number is #777 For connection method, most will just leave it as Always Connected 11) If you selected UMTS (3.5G), you will now have to either select from the list the provider or put in the APN number. Only Rogers and FIDO is currently in the list, for all other providers, you must select Manual and put in the following info. APN (Access Point Name): enter your APN such as: inet.bell.va or isp.cingular or whatever you see in the list below for your provider For username and password, it is blank (nothing in there) Connection Method is normally Always Connected Dial number: This can be nothing, just take it out if something list listed there SIM PIN: Nothing, field should be blank Press Next to continue 12) This page will now allow you to set your SSID (this is what will be display when you view your wireless connections) This page also allows you to set a WPA password if that option is check. Note that the router is cable of have many types of security level. WPA is an advanced security method and may not work with some PDA or other devices. If you would like to select other security methods, you can do this later so for now you can continue without check the WPA option If you want the WPA, just tick it and put in a password. The detail of the WPA is WPA Personal with TKIP method For the first 2 option, normally everyone will leave this on unless you do not need to use any wireless features or do not want to broadcast the wireless SSID in public. By default, both of these options are enabled Press Next to continue, If you get an error is it most likely that your password is not long enough for the security. 13) The last step is just a confirmation page of what you selected. Press Apply to confirm and within a few mins, you will be online, YIPPY!!! Look at the front of the router, you will see the "3G Status" This has to be lit for you to have 3G access on the router. You should noticed the left left on the front start to blink, It may blank and stop and then start back in a few seconds, If everything went correct, your 3G status light should come on within 1 minute, normally within 10-20 seconds. Once you see the 3G status light on, close all your windows and re-open the browser, you should have a connection to the internet. Note: if you set your WPA password, you will have to put the password in again as your will get disconnected from the wireless network until you enter the new settings. Again it is important to note that with Windows 7, it will access WPA automatically, With all previous versions, you may have to go in the wireless properties and select: Security Type: WPA Personal Date Encryption: TKIP If you have not selected WPA, then you do not need to worry about this. If you still cannot go online and see the 3G status is on, reboot your pc and the router by unplugging the power in the back and on again in the router. After a reboot, it may take 1-2 mins for the router to connect to your pc. HELP SECTION: If you cannot get to the GUI page, 192.168.0.1, you are not connected to the router. If you are connected with a cable, ensure that it is in one of the 4 ports in the back and not in the WAN port. Also, in some cases, you may have a static ip in the settings of your network card on your pc that may stop the unit to connecting to the router. Go to the properties of your network card and check the properties of Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and or Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) and make sure everything is set to obtain automatically. If it was not obtain automatically, change to this settings and reboot your pc. If you are trying to connect wireless, then make you select the correct network. By default, the MOFI router has no password on the wireless settings. To check to see if you have a connection to the router, you can check to see if you get an ip address: go to the command prompt by Start--> Run and put cmd and press enter or Start --> and type cmd in the search bar in windows 7 and press enter A black screen will pop up Enter: ipconfig press enter and it will display all your network settings Pay attention to the ip address The MOFI3500-3GN by default will assign you an ip address like: 192.168.0.SOMETHING If you see an ip of 169.something then you are not connected to the router. If all case fails, hold the reset button on the back of the router for 5-10 seconds and this should reset the router to factory settings. Try to connect to the router again and if still no luck, feel free to email MOFI Network support team: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
